Nobody actually talks the way they do in training videos, do they?

I’m watching a training video and it starts off with patently unrealistic dialog.

I’m struggling with X. Maybe you can help me out with a different perspective, or some information that I’m not aware of.

An opening line like that pretty much demands bad acting. You can tell that this dialogue was designed by a committee. Nobody actually talks like this.

Well, that’s perhaps too much of a blanket statement. Maybe people talk like this at the training company that produced the video.

Raymond has been involved in the evolution of Windows for more than 30 years. In 2003, he began a Web site known as The Old New Thing which has grown in popularity far beyond his wildest imagination, a development which still gives him the heebie-jeebies. The Web site spawned a book, coincidentally also titled The Old New Thing (Addison Wesley 2007). He occasionally appears on the Windows Dev Docs Twitter account to tell stories which convey no useful information.
