All good things must come to an end

Doctor Scripto

Hello everyone!

For the last 16 years, the Hey, Scripting Guy! blog was the place for the community to come for information about scripting technologies at Microsoft. Originally, the blog was focused on VBScript and Windows batch. But in 2008, when Ed Wilson took over from Greg Stemp and the other Scripting Guys, he changed to focus to PowerShell. The blog has over 5400 posts (60% about PowerShell) and many 1000’s of comments. Ed hosted many posts from the community, including The Scripting Wife, his wife Teresa.

A lot has changed since 2008. Certainly, PowerShell has changed. Ed Wilson, the last Scripting Guy, retired in 2017. Since Ed’s retirement, Sean Kearney has been keeping the lights on, but things have been winding down for quite a while. So now it is time for the blog to retire too, just like the Scripting Guy.

But don’t worry, the existing blog content is not going away, nor are we.

Announcing the PowerShell Community Blog

It’s time to start fresh and the torch is being passed on to a new generation.

With this last post we are proud to announce a new blog, dedicated to PowerShell and with a renewed focus on the community.

The PowerShell Community blog is a place for the community to learn PowerShell and share insights. This is a blog by the community and for the community. And we have made it easier than ever for you to contribute to the new blog. So come join us at the new blog, learn how to contribute, and join the fun!

Happy Scripting everyone.

Your friend and forever companion,

Doctor Scripto

I have just read this post (better be late then never I guess) but honestly… Reading this made me little sad 🙁 … its hard to say goodbuy to good things.
“Quite” (without too many comments), very well written, high quality examples and easy to read posts….
Thank you very much for the knowledge and all the effort sharing it.
    Big thanks.

Sad to hear that….this blog was kind of a club for not-so-old (⌐■_■)) tools that I have grown up using and learning and that in here find a place…from Dos commands and bat files, vbs to lately powershell…it was a true pleasure reading the posts….
No much places to talk about this today…I’ve learned PowerShell, Python, Julia and a bit about Bash…but I will surely keep using my Dos commands…just lonelier now…

Thank you, guys…for it all!! We will be missing you! Take care!!!
(In time: thanks Thomas Lee and team for a new start)
