Validate features of PowerShell DSC

Michael Greene

As many readers of the PowerShell blog already know, the next version of PowerShell is currently in preview. It is available in the Windows Management Framework 5 Preview. You can install this package on Windows 7, Server 2008 R2, or later.

Your feedback is important to us!

After software ships, it is harder to introduce changes. There is a risk that any change could break something for customers who are using the current codebase. If you can get feedback while in preview it is usually easier to make changes. For this reason we are asking anyone who can take a moment to validate new features and functionality, to please share their feedback.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find the latest WMF5 preview? You can always use the same link. We keep the short URL up to date. https://aka.ms/wmf5latest What should I test? Each day this week we will publish a new step-by-step validation guide. There are many more features of DSC in WMF5 we could add to the list but this is a great start. Each of these blog posts will be published on the corresponding date in the list below.

How do I provide feedback?

  • Microsoft Connect
  • Blog comments. In this case, the comments section for each post. If you decide to publish a reaction post please post a link in the comments section.
  • Start a thread in the forum at PowerShell.org.
  • Twitter with the hashtag #PSDSC.
  • The PowerShell channel on Slack, which is now bridged to the community IRC channel.

What is feedback? Feedback is anything coming from you. It does not have to be a bug you found in software. If you only have time to skim the scenario and you think we might have missed a key concept that matters to you, tell us. We have work items in TFS today that started just like that. How will you use my feedback? If you would like to listen to a detailed discussion on this topic, there was a great session at PowerShell Summit North America 2015. See the video here. What if I already provided feedback? Even if you haven’t heard from us yet, we are paying attention and looking at bugs that have already been filed. Thank you for taking the time to do so. Thank you! Michael Greene Senior Program Manager ECG CAT Team; PowerShell & Automation
