Apparently they know more information about me than me, but dare I ask?

There’s this software services company that retweets content from various technology sites, and they end every one with “Want to learn more? Call us at…”. What, so they know more about the subject matter than the person whose content they are retweeting? Why would I call them to learn more about myself?

One Dev Question with Raymond Chen – Why did you apply to Microsoft? https://youtu.be/oL8ymamkEMU #redacted #windows

Want to learn more? Call us at (###) ###-### or send an email to redacted@example.com

Note that a casual glance at the format of the given phone number may make you think it’s a United States/Canadian number, but it’s not, so readers in the United States should be careful: It likely won’t be covered by your “free national long distance” plan.

Maybe I should record a One Dev Minute video about a problem that stumped me, and then I can send them an email and ask for the solution!

Author

Raymond has been involved in the evolution of Windows for more than 30 years. In 2003, he began a Web site known as The Old New Thing which has grown in popularity far beyond his wildest imagination, a development which still gives him the heebie-jeebies. The Web site spawned a book, coincidentally also titled The Old New Thing (Addison Wesley 2007). He occasionally appears on the Windows Dev Docs Twitter account to tell stories which convey no useful information.
