The hardest part of writing the video game Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time

Many years ago, I happened to have lunch with one of the programmers who worked on the video game Monty Python’s Complete Waste of Time (read a review). This program was notable in many ways, most geekily that it was brought on board the Mir space station by astronaut Michael Foale. Anyway, during the course of lunch, I learned something unusual: “The hardest part of writing that program? Synchronizing the farts [sounds] to the video.” Vaguely related : How the Space Shuttle and International Space Station use Outlook.

Not really related: Trailer for IMAX Hubble 3D movie.

Raymond has been involved in the evolution of Windows for more than 30 years. In 2003, he began a Web site known as The Old New Thing which has grown in popularity far beyond his wildest imagination, a development which still gives him the heebie-jeebies. The Web site spawned a book, coincidentally also titled The Old New Thing (Addison Wesley 2007). He occasionally appears on the Windows Dev Docs Twitter account to tell stories which convey no useful information.
