Microsoft Teams apps are now generally available on Microsoft 365 Android app

Sanjay Joshi

At Ignite 2022, we announced the Preview of Microsoft Teams apps on Microsoft 365 (Office) Android app. We’re excited to announce this feature is now generally available.

What’s new in Teams apps on Microsoft 365 Android app

You can now run Teams personal tab apps on the Microsoft 365 Android app, app version 16.0.16130.20156 and above. Teams apps built using the Microsoft TeamsJS v2 SDK and Teams App manifest (version 1.13) will now appear in the Microsoft 365 Android app under the “Apps” menu. Below is an example of how a sample app “NorthWind Orders” runs inside Microsoft 365 app.

With this, developers can reach even more Microsoft 365 users and enable exciting mobile-first scenarios with a single codebase.  Furthermore, IT Admins can now deploy and manage apps from the Microsoft Admin Center. Learn more here on how a Teams personal tab app can be deployed to Microsoft 365 (Office) hub using the Microsoft Admin Center.

In the coming months, we’ll make Teams personal tab apps available on Microsoft 365 iOS app, too.  Keep watching this blog for details.

A thriving ecosystem of mobile apps

There are already more than 20 partner-built apps running on the Microsoft 365 Android mobile app. We want to thank the partners who worked with us to create these apps and are excited to see how our mutual customers adopt these apps.

And we are excited to see how our users adopt these apps to meet their productivity needs in and beyond the workplace.

Admin controls

With enhanced Teams apps coming to Microsoft 365 app on Android, we understand that as an IT admin, you may want to block users in your org from using enhanced Teams apps on Microsoft 365 (Office) app on Android.

You can do these using the app configuration policy documented here: Manage Teams apps running on Microsoft 365 (Office) app for Android
