Advanced Shader Delivery is Available Now Across Hardware and Coming Soon to Other Storefronts

A few weeks ago, we announced that Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) is available for Gears of War: E-Day and teased that the feature is coming to devices across Windows 11. Today, we’re proud to announce that Advanced Shader Delivery is broadly available across the Windows ecosystem on devices powered by AMD, Intel, Nvidia, and Qualcomm!

ASD addresses a PC ecosystem wide challenge by delivering shaders at download of a title- reducing overall loading time, reducing shader stutter in game, and saving on power consumption. Check out the system requirements below for supported hardware and graphics drivers.

What’s next?

We’re also excited to announce that ASD will soon expand beyond the Microsoft Store and XBOX PC app to the Epic Games Store and Steam to deliver a better Windows gaming experience to more players! Epic Games will also roll out ASD support in an upcoming update for Fortnite.

For game developers, we’re continuing to make it easier to enumerate and compile state objects. Our upcoming October Agility SDK release includes important improvements such as partial programs, which will more efficiently compile complex state objects in different configurations.

Today: Advanced Shader Delivery Comes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

We are also excited to showcase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 as a great example of ASD working across devices. With ASD, shader compilation at first launch takes just a few seconds, compared to several minutes on a typical PC without ASD.

When launching Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, a UI string “Precompiled shaders installed” will appear in the bottom left

To experience ASD for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, install the XBOX PC app before downloading.  For the best experience for ASD across all supported titles, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.

Call to Action

If you’re a game developer looking to solve shader compilation, take a look at our documentation on how to integrate ASD for your title. Here, you’ll find instructions on how to collect state object databases (SODB) and upload them to game storefronts to support pre-compilation for your title today.

For those using Unreal Engine 5.8.4 to develop their title, the ability to integrate SODBs into the process is available today. Here is a link to their documentation on how to easily build an SODB into the process.

For those using Unity, SODB integration will be available in 2027!

Doesn’t seem to be working for me.

I have 621.01 NVIDIA driver installed, Shader Delivery label shows up on the GoW: E-Day launcher window (game is from Game Pass), but then compiling shaders step takes as long as it did before.

did you dowload the game, before or after updating the driver version? and is your windows version up to date as well?

this is awesome news, shader comp stuttering and really long loading times have been a thorn on my pc gaming enjoyment for many years already, thank you for working on this, can´t wait for it to come to steam! really hope massive adoption by developers.

Really good tech and needs to be adopted by a lot of developers. I can’t wait to try it on Steam.
