The Azure DevOps Demo Generator
The Azure DevOps Demo Generator is a fantastic tool that can help you provision Azure DevOps projects complete with sample data or a starting point. I recently sat down with Nagaraj Bhairaji from the team that built the tool. Check it out.
As the name implies, the Azure DevOps Demo Generator is fantastic for spinning up Azure DevOps projects ready to demo or try out. It can be time-consuming to configure a project with everything you need to properly try a feature or work through a demo. The demo generator allows you to skip all that work.
As you’ll see in the video, there are a lot of templates already in the app that you can choose from. Most are from either the Azure DevOps Labs, or Microsoft Learn, but there are plenty of others, including a new collection focused on the Cloud Adoption Framework.
In addition to demos and tutorials, the tool can also be extremely useful for real-world projects. It can be used to configure a brand new Azure DevOps Project with a known, approved starting point.
For example, you may want to start every new .NET project with a standard code structure, an already-configured CI/CD pipeline, and a set of Epics (work items) to highlight the major stages in a project.
You don’t have to stick to the templates that are already there, either. Just click the “Build your template” link and follow the prompts to create a template from an existing project in your Azure DevOps organization.
To get started, check out the documentation on Microsoft Docs.
The project is under active development, so if there’s a feature you’d like to see, a bug you need fixed, or a template you think the community would benefit from, you can find the project on GitHub. The team would love your input!
