September patches for Azure DevOps Server and Team Foundation Server

For the September patches, we are releasing fixes that impact our self-hosted product, Azure DevOps Server, as well as Team Foundation Server 2017.

The following will be fixed with this patch:

Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.1 Patch 1

If you have Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.1, you should install Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.1 Patch 1. Check out the release notes for more details.

Verifying Installation

  • Option 1: Run devops2020.1.1patch1.exe CheckInstall, devops2020.1.1patch1.exe is the file that is downloaded from the link above. The output of the command will either say that the patch has been installed, or that is not installed.

  • Option 2: Check the version of the following file: [INSTALL_DIR]\Azure DevOps Server 2020\Application Tier\bin\Microsoft.Teamfoundation.Framework.Server.dll. Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.1 is installed to c:\Program Files\Azure DevOps Server 2020 by default. After installing Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.1 Patch 1, the version will be 18.181.31707.2.

Azure DevOps Server 2020.0.1 Patch 6

If you have Azure DevOps Server 2020.0.1, you should install Azure DevOps Server 2020.0.1 Patch 6. Check out the release notes for more details.

Verifying Installation

  • Option 1: Run devops2020.0.1patch6.exe CheckInstall, devops2020.0.1patch6.exe is the file that is downloaded from the link above. The output of the command will either say that the patch has been installed, or that is not installed.

  • Option 2: Check the version of the following file: [INSTALL_DIR]\Azure DevOps Server 2020\Application Tier\bin\Microsoft.Teamfoundation.Framework.Server.dll. Azure DevOps Server 2020.1 is installed to c:\Program Files\Azure DevOps Server 2020 by default. After installing Azure DevOps Server 2020.0.1 Patch 6, the version will be 18.170.31708.1.

Azure DevOps Server 2019.1.1 Patch 11

If you have Azure DevOps Server 2019 Update 1.1, you should install Azure DevOps Server 2019 Update 1.1 Patch 11. Check out the release notes for more details

Verifying Installation

  • Option 1: Run devops2019.1.1patch11.exe CheckInstall. devops2019.1.1patch11.exe is the file that is downloaded from the link above. The output of the command will either say that the patch has been installed, or that is not installed.

  • Option 2: Check the version of the following file: [INSTALL_DIR]\Azure DevOps Server 2019\Application Tier\Web Services\bin\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Services.Feed.Server.dll. Azure DevOps Server 2019 is installed to c:\Program Files\Azure DevOps Server 2019 by default. After installing Azure DevOps Server 2019.1.1 Patch 11, the version will be 17.153.31707.1.

TFS 2017 Update 3.1 Patch 14

If you have TFS 2017, you should first update to TFS 2017 Update 3.1. Once on Update 3.1, install TFS 2017 Update 3.1 Patch 14.

Verifying Installation

  • Option 1: Run tfs2017.3.1patch14.exe CheckInstall, tfs2017.3.1patch14.exe is the file that is downloaded from the link above. The output of the command will either say that the patch has been installed, or that is not installed.

  • Option 2: Check the version of the following file: [TFS_INSTALL_DIR]\Application Tier\Web Services\bin\Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Server.WebAccess.Admin.dll. TFS 2017 is installed to c:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 15.0 by default. After installing TFS 2017 Update 3.1 Patch 14, the version will be 15.117.31707.0.

    Patches are allways cumulative, right? So 2020.0.1 patch 1 can be directly upgraded to 2020.0.1 patch 6?

    Can you share a little more information on “Resolve issue with inconsistent Test Results data” so that we can determine if it deems us to install this patch?

      Hi Tore, there was an issue displaying test result data with SOAP API apps. When the data was fetched using the app, the attachment linked to the test run was displayed twice.

    I can't execute the patch. I've git the following message:
    This patch does not apply to Azure DevOps Server version 18.181.31527.1.

    What is worng?

    here the complete log:

      Hi Jens, there was an issue after upgrading from 2020.1 patch 2 to 2020.1.1 that may be impacting your patch install. Look at the updated post in the Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.1 blog post. Let me know if this helps with your install.

        Thank Gloridel.
        I had downloaded the mul_azure_devops_server_2020.1.1_x64_dvd_8889b518.iso at 2021-08-31. This version had your discribed bug.
        I downloaded the new version mul_azure_devops_server_2020.1.1_x64_dvd_b97c496e.iso and installed that, after this I can install the devops2020.1.1patch1.exe.
        So we are now on the latest stable version.

      We’ve also run into this same issue. We did not have any problems installing Azure DevOps Server Update 1.1 as mentioned by Rene at the top

        Thank Gloridel, I’ll try that in our test environment. Worth noting we didn’t actually install 2020.1 patch 2 as it was in 2020.1.1 we went directly from 2020.1 patch 1 to 2020.1.1 which isn’t mentioned in that blog post with the potential fix

      Hi Nikita, do you mean Azure DevOps Server 2022? We plan to release the first release candidate of Azure DevOps Server 2022 at the end of this calendar year.

        If you could post the system requirements for Azure DevOps Server 2022, that would be very helpful. I’m interested in learning the minimum versions of Windows Server OS and SQL Server.

        Thanks! So to be clear, you’re not anticipating any changes for 2022 from the minimum requirements of Azure DevOps Server 2020, correct?

        Just want to be certain- if I need to upgrade Windows Server OS or SQL Server versions, I need to notify my IT folks- and get this on their list of future work. Otherwise I can perform the upgrade myself… 🙂
