This month, we are releasing fixes that impact our self-hosted product, Azure DevOps Server, as well as Team Foundation Server 2019.1.1. The following will be fixed with this patch:

  • Test run details do not display test step details for test data migrated using OpsHub Migration
  • Exception on initializer for ‘Microsoft.TeamFoundation.TestManagement.Server.TCMLogger’
  • Unretained builds are immediately deleted after migration to Azure DevOps Server 2020
  • Fix data provider exception

Azure DevOps Server 2020 Patch 2

If you have Azure DevOps Server 2020, you should install Azure DevOps Server 2020 Patch 2.

Verifying Installation

Azure DevOps Server 2020 is installed to c:\Program Files\Azure DevOps Server 2020 by default. After installing Azure DevOps Server 2020 Patch 2, the version will be 18.170.30830.2.

After installing Azure DevOps Server 2019.1.1 Patch 7, the Azure DevOps Server Administration Console is still showing the previous version 17.153.29522.3 (AzureDevOps2019.Update1.1) instead of the installed version zure DevOps Server 2019.1.1 Patch 7 (17.153.30904.4).
    Server rebooted with same result.

And also running tfsconfig.exe -settings returns a log with Version : 17.153.29522.3

-result with CheckInstall parameter returns “Patch 17.153.30904.4 found in registry, it is installed.”
    -DLL shows 17.153.30904.4.

The last two patches we’ve seen this error:

Error patching files: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path ‘C:\Program Files\Azure DevOps Server 2020\Application Tier\Web Services\bin\Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Framework.Server.dll’ is denied

Any ideas why? Previous patching has always been smooth and without any issues

    • Andre Wanlin

To resolve the issue we needed to restart the Windows Event Log service

Hi Andre, I opened a bug to get this issue investigated by the team. I will update here once I hear back from them.

      Hi Christian,
We have identified the issue and prepared a fix for this, this shall be available in the february patch and fixed in Server 2020 U1.

Hi Christian, this patch doesn’t fix that issue. This issue is still under investigation with Need More Info.

    So…
Any estimate when the link for AzDOS 2019 1.1 patch 7 will be fixed?

When running devops2020patch2.exe, it says the patch does not apply to version 18.170.30804.1. Does having a RC installed make a difference on these patches?

    • Gloridel MoralesMicrosoft employee Author

Hi Keenan, this patch is for Azure DevOps Server 2020. It doesn’t apply to Azure DevOps Server 2020.0.1.

I am finding the same. When I try to apply the patch to Server 2020.0.1 RC (18.170.30804.1), I see "This patch does not apply to Azure DevOps Server version 18.170.30804.1". The blog post announcing the RC version (https://devblogs.microsoft.com/devops/announcing-azure-devops-server-2020-0-1-rc/) states that it is a go-live release. Is there another patch coming for 2020.0.1 RC that has these same fixes? If not, what is the suggested update path for those of us running the go-live RC...

This version is not DevOps Server 2020, but the RC of DevOps Server 2020.0.1 which is a RC for a future product update.
