Visual Studio Online Update – Dec 2nd

Brian Harry
Corporate Vice President

This week we are rolling out the sprint 74 updates to VS Online.  You can read details about the features on the service news page. There’s nothing huge here.  After the larger announcements we made at Connect(); in November, we’re back to iterating on and improving capabilities more incrementally. For large organizations, my favorite improvement is the new identity control.  As it evolved, I kept asking the team to try to make it work like address resolution in Outlook works – I like it a lot.  It’s not quite the same because we don’t have a local copy of the address book to work against but it’s mostly the same.  It has an MRU list of people you’ve recently assigned work to, incremental filtering as you type, a search experience to search the entire directory, a virtual list that loads as you page, etc.  It supports typing either someone’s full name “Brian Harry” or their alias “bharry” (which we haven’t supported before).  It also supports avatars. If your organization has more than a few dozen people, it’s a big improvement. Identity control on a work item For now, these enhancements only apply to our web experience but we plan on bringing them into our IDE integrated experiences as well. You’ll also see improvements to pull requests, the kanban board and more. Let us know if you have any feedback…
