Teams JS SDK v2 public preview update: Teams apps in Outlook Web

Zakiullah Khan

Last month, we announced the public preview of a new Teams JS SDK v2 that lets developers extend Teams personal tabs and preview them in Outlook for Windows (Beta Channel). We are excited to announce that starting today, developers using the new SDK can now extend and preview Teams personal tabs and search-based message extensions in Outlook Web (Target Release).

What’s in preview?

Developers using the preview version of Teams JS SDK can call the isSupported() function and hostName context property at runtime to provide a differentiated app experience based on the host (Teams or Outlook). To get started, refer to the developer documentation and to see everything that’s new and improved in this release, check out the changelog on GitHub.

In addition to the SDK’s new capabilities, we’re previewing a new version of the Teams Toolkit, which provides tools to help developers with the process of extending new or existing Teams personal tabs and search-based message extensions to Outlook Web (Target Release). Also using the Teams Toolkit preview, developers can now debug extended apps both in Teams and Outlook web clients.

As usual, we’re working closely with a set of partners who are helping us develop these new experiences as we continue to preview this new technology.  We’re thankful for their feedback in shaping and improving our developer experiences.
