Announcing WinUI Gallery 2.8

Header image with a screenshot of the WinUI 3 Gallery

Hey WinUI developers! If you’re new around here, WinUI Gallery is the go-to app for exploring WinUI 3 controls, samples, design guidance, and handy tools — all in one place. Today, we’re excited to announce WinUI Gallery 2.8, bringing jump list support, new samples, improved accessibility, and several quality-of-life improvements and bugfixes!

Jump list support

The Gallery now integrates with Windows jump lists, making it easier to quickly return to the samples and tools you use most.

Right-clicking the app icon in the taskbar (or accessing it from the Start menu) now shows a Jump List that includes your favorited samples or recently viewed samples. This allows you to jump directly into the parts of the Gallery you use most often without navigating through the app first.

In addition to the integration in the app itself, we’ve also added a new Jump List sample demonstrating how developers can implement this functionality in their own WinUI applications.

New & updated samples

This release adds several new samples and improvements to existing ones to better showcase common WinUI scenarios:

  • AppWindow TitleBar customization sample
  • Jump list sample
  • Improved Clipboard samples, showing how to copy-and-paste images and files.

Additional improvements and bugfixes

This release also includes many improvements across the app, including:

  • Added over 60+ new Segoe Fluent Icons in the icon picker, supporting British tag variants too.
  • Improved layout, entrance animations and text readability.
  • Various accessibility improvements.
  • Upgraded to .NET 9 and Windows App SDK 1.8.5 and adopting .slnx.
  • Improved launch speed and other performance enhancements

Thank you for this! Now if only we could get a WinUI NumberBox that properly handles integers and DECIMALS now that the SDK supports them, without having to get incorrect numbers when converting decimal to double and back again.

Thanks for updating the gallery app!
