.NET Framework November 2020 Security and Quality Rollup Updates

Revised 1/15/2021:  On Jan 12, 2020, a live revision was made to these updates to remove its supersedence relationship with the October 13, 2020, .NET Framework security updates. If you have already installed this update, the October 13 .NET Framework updates, or any later .NET Framework updates, you do not have to take any action to be up-to-date for the latest .NET Framework security updates. See the “Update replacement information” section in this article for more information for WSUS administrators.

WSUS administrators who cannot install the October Security and Quality Rollup and have to reinstate the October 13, 2020, KB 4578974 security update, if it was declined, can follow this guidance: Reinstating declined updates. Then, they should run an update synchronization within their Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, or update management environments, as applicable.

Earlier this week, we released the November 2020 Security and Quality Rollup Updates for .NET Framework.

Security

The November Security and Quality Rollup Update does not contain any new security fixes. See October 2020 Security and Quality Rollup for the latest security updates.

Quality and Reliability

This release contains the following quality and reliability improvements.

SQL

• Addressed an issue in System.Data.SqlClient where querying string columns would fail if the database had a Kazakh collation.

WPF²

• Addressed a regression from a previous update, arising when two HostVisual elements disconnect at the same time.
• Addressed a crash and/or hang when typing into a TextBox in a WPF app, when the OS feature “use text cursor indicator” is enabled.

Getting the Update

The Security and Quality Rollup is available via Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services, and Microsoft Update Catalog.

Microsoft Update Catalog

You can get the update via the Microsoft Update Catalog. For Windows 10, NET Framework 4.8 updates are available via Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services, Microsoft Update Catalog. Updates for other versions of .NET Framework are part of the Windows 10 Monthly Cumulative Update.

**Note**: Customers that rely on Windows Update and Windows Server Update Services will automatically receive the .NET Framework version-specific updates. Advanced system administrators can also take use of the below direct Microsoft Update Catalog download links to .NET Framework-specific updates. Before applying these updates, please ensure that you carefully review the .NET Framework version applicability, to ensure that you only install updates on systems where they apply.
