Today we’re very excited to announce the first release candidate (RC) of Azure DevOps Server 2022!
We added many new features that you’ve been asking for. Here are a few of the highlights:
- Delivery Plans
- New controls for environment variables in pipelines
- Generate unrestricted token for fork builds
- Templates support in YAML editor
- Group By Tags available in chart widgets
There are many more features with this release and you can read all about those features in our release notes. You can download Azure DevOps Server 2022 RC1 today. A direct upgrade to Azure DevOps Server is supported from any version of TFS, including Team Foundation Server 2015 and newer. Let us know any feedback or questions via the Developer Community.
Hi,
After installing and exploring this new interesting RC version, I wonder if you will provide the possibility of direct upgrade from RC release to GA release or it will be a new installation ?
Bests
Hi Zouari Anis, direct upgrade to the final version/GA of Azure DevOps Server 2022 is supported from a release candidate (RC).
Does the Azure DevOps Server 2022 build resolve the lov4j security issue that arose a short time ago with the ElasticSearch feature?
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/devops/azure-devops-and-azure-devops-server-and-the-log4j-vulnerability/
Hi William, the Log4j issue was addressed in Azure DevOps Server 2022 RC1.
Hi,
Thanks for the information and looking forward to this update!
Will the Visual studio build task that is shipped with ADO server 2022, contain the latest version of azure pipeline tasks, so as to support building with VS2022? It’s close to a year now that VS2022 was released and our pipelines can’t build .NET 6 projects using VS2022 out of the box (and we are forced to use workarounds).
Regards,
Tejas Nair
Hi Tejas Nair, the build task will contain the latest version. Azure DevOps Server 2022 RC2 will support building with VS2022.
Hi Tejas, I will ask our engineering team and let you know.
Hi
I am not able to use Mermaid in wiki even if it`s should be available.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/project/wiki/wiki-markdown-guidance?view=azure-devops-2022#add-mermaid-diagrams-to-a-wiki-page
Hopefully this will be included in the next update!
Thanks
Hi Erlend, mermaid diagrams are not supported in wiki pages at this time. We expect to add this feature with the Azure DevOps Server 2022 RC2 release.
Hi Erlend, we will investigate this, and I will provide an update as soon as I have it. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Git LFS is currently broken by default in Azure Devops Server because it dropped support for NTLM. Does this release support Kerberos for Git LFS out of the box, or will we still need to configure our IIS to use Kerberos instead of NTLM manually.
Thank You!
You can still use Git LFS if using PAT as login instead. And it only have issues where Kerberos isn’t a possibility.
Hi James, I will ask our engineering team and let you know once I have a response.
Sadly the announced Delivery Plan – Dependency Lines are also not displayed on our Lab environment even though Predecessor as well as Successors are defined in the work items.
And the announced YAML Templates seem to need the availability of preview features options, how to enable those in the ADO Server 2022 RC1?
Any hints on those issues?
For the dependency lines. I just checked this out in our test environment, and it is working as expected. If you can, email me some details and screen shots to dahellem@microsoft.com and we can take a look at it with you.
Thanks Dan,
just sent out the mail if you need anything else please let me know.
BR,
Jan
How do we enable preview features on devops server 2022 onprem? The release notes show it in the screenshot for “Templates support in YAML editor” for “Azure DevOps Server 2022” but no where to do this… also it shows Mermaid support for the wiki, yet I do not see it working on the onprem devops server 2022 despit the documentation showing it in it
Hi Brian, mermaid diagrams are not supported in wiki pages at this time. We expect to add this feature with the Azure DevOps Server 2022 RC2 release.
Hi Brian, thank you for reporting the issue! We are investigating it, and will get back to you once we have more information.
I can verify that the mermaid support is missing in 2022 RC1 even though it is mentioned in the release notes. If it is again not in the release this is be the second major release where this feature was announced and then not included. As mermaid is only in the frontend I really do not get why it keeps being forgotten. It is really a big quality of life feature and a constant complaint from our users that it is missing.
Hi Stefan, we will investigate features that were not enabled with this release. I will provide an update as soon as I have it and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Attention: Not found the Copy Dashboard Feature after upgrade from AzDevOpsServer2020.1 to AzDevOpsServer2022.RC1!!!
Hi Quintos, Copy Dashboard will be included in Azure DevOps Server 2022 RC2.
Hi Quintos, we are investigating the issue with Copy Dashboard and will get back to you once we have more information.

When can we expect the GA release of DevOps Server 2022?
Hi Daniel, we are targeting Q4 2022.
These RC’s typically come with a Go-Live license but I’m not seeing clear messaging on this anywhere. The https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/license-terms/ is also not showing 2022 yet. Could you clarify the support provided for these RC releases.
Hi Mike, you can find the license agreement in the https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/server/download/azuredevopsserver?view=azure-devops-2020.
Could it be that the Copy Dashboard is missing, there is no option in our Lab environment after the migration to copy a dashboard. Created a new Dashboard but also there is not the additional option to create a copy.
Thanks and BR,
Jan
Hi Jan. Copy Dashboard will be included in Azure DevOps Server 2022 RC2.
