Microsoft Signs CJIS Security Addendum with New Jersey

Rochelle M. Eichner

Microsoft has now contractually committed to CJIS requirements in 29 states.

Meeting the applicable regulatory controls of the CJIS Security Policy is a long-term commitment for Microsoft. We don’t consider it a checkbox, it is a commitment. As part of this commitment, Microsoft recently signed the CJIS Security Addendum with New Jersey. This brings the total states adjudicating Microsoft employees to 29.

State residency and national fingerprint-based record checks are required for all personnel who have direct access to Government Cloud services with Criminal Justice Information (CJI) as defined in 5.12.1 of the CJIS Security Policy. The Microsoft CJIS Information Agreement and Security Addendums with these 29 states allows law enforcement agencies to meet CJIS requirements and deploy mission critical justice and public safety solutions in Microsoft Government Cloud services. This includes innovative solutions for camera technology, biometrics, jail/court/offender management, investigation and evidence solutions, etc.

Validation for meeting the CJIS audit requirements for law enforcement agencies is critical to protecting sensitive information. To simplify the audit preparation, Microsoft has developed CJIS Implementation Guidelines and is presenting CJIS Blueprint workshops for agencies to better understand the controls applicable to the 13 CJIS Security Policy areas.

For additional implementation information, review the Microsoft CJIS Implementation Guidelines. This document provides guidelines and resources to assist criminal justice entities in implementing and utilizing Microsoft Government Cloud features.
