Announcing Dv2-Series Virtual Machines in US Gov – Iowa

In the last few weeks, we have made Dv2-Series VMs available in the US Gov – Iowa region for Azure Government. This means that both Azure Government regions now have access to D-Series VMs.  US Gov – Virginia has the original D-Series VMs.

Dv2-Series VMs (a follow-on to the original D-Series VMs) feature similar memory and hard disk configurations, but more powerful CPUs. Based on the latest generation 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon E5-2673 v3 (Haswell) processors, Dv2 VMs are designed to offer an optimal configuration for running workloads that require increased processing power and fast local disk I/O.

Currently D1 through D14 are enabled in both US Gov – Iowa (Dv2-Series) and US Gov – Virginia (D-Series). The largest (D15) instance type is not yet available.  We are working on enabling this largest instance type in the coming months.

To summarize the current types of virtual machines that are currently available in Azure Government:

Region A-Series D-Series
US Gov – Iowa A1 to A7 D1 to D14 V2
US Gov – Virginia A1 to A7 D1 to D14 V1
