Emerging from the depths, Godzilla G-series VMs for Azure Government

Update, 10/21: Azure GS-Series Virtual Machines

A G-Series variant, the GS-Series now supports Premium storage in the US Gov Virginia region.  GS-Series VMs enable resource-intensive applications with the fastest processors, the most memory, and the highest input/output operations per second (IOPS) (for storage disk performance compared to any other series).  For more information, please refer to the Additional Resources links below for Azure Virtual Machines.

We are excited to announce the general availability of the G-Series Virtual Machines in Microsoft Azure Government.

Azure G-Series Virtual Machines

The G-Series provides more memory and more local solid state drive (SSD) storage than other Azure virtual machine sizes. In addition to massive memory and local SSD storage, the G-Series provides unparalleled computational performance by using the latest Intel Xeon processor E5 v3 family, ideal for your most demanding applications.

Here are the CPU, memory, and disk configurations for the G-Series instances

VM Size  Cores  RAM (GB)  Local SSD Storage (GB)  Persistent Data Disks Max
Standard_G1  2  28  412  4
Standard_G2  4  56  824  8
Standard_G3  8  112  1,649  16
Standard_G4  16  224  3,298  32
Standard_G5  32  448  6,596  64

Benefits include:

  • Sizing to handle even the largest business needs.
  • Fast I/O performance and extremely low latencies when using Azure Premium Storage
