Customer Showcase: Third Culture Apps’ Award Winning Xamarin Apps

James Montemagno
Principal Manager, Tech PM

For our Xamarin customer showcase today, we talk with Bardi Golriz, the founder of Third Culture Apps, who loves building beautiful and simple, yet powerful apps using .NET and Xamarin. They are the developer of the Ruff, the 2019 Google Material Design Award recipient. As well as Appy Weather, a 2019 Best of Google Play award winning app. Read on to learn how it all started and what the future holds for Third Culture and their award winning apps.

Tell us a little bit about Third Culture Apps and the types of apps you build?

I founded Third Culture Apps in 2019 when I became a full-time indie developer after many years working on apps as a hobby. I’m interested in building beautifully simple applications that provide utility, are delightful to use, and challenge conventional designs. The end-product may not always be for everyone, but at least it’s a meaningfully differentiated option that was designed by a human for other humans.

What are your favorite parts of developing with Xamarin and how does it help you set you apart from the competition?

So many! Definitely up there is being able to develop mobile applications in C# using Visual Studio. This combination makes for a highly productive workflow. The shared logic between projects makes a huge difference to how fast I can deliver new apps/updates and support them on so many platforms. I consider this to be a meaningful advantage over the competition, as it allows a solo developer, like myself, to accelerate a cross-platform presence with minimal overhead.

Tells us a little bit about winning the 2019 Material Design Award

It was an amazing feeling and not something that has completely sunk in yet. It provided validation on a couple of important points. 1) It leaves no doubt that Xamarin is capable of delivering “best-in-class designs” on Android and elsewhere. 2) If you are ambitious and just keep going, you will get recognition for your work. Even if you are a still-unknown indie like myself.

What are your future plans for Third Culture Apps?

To bring both Appy Weather and Ruff to iOS. As well as continuing to build new and engaging experiences everywhere thanks to Xamarin and .NET’s reach.

Best of google Play 2019 AwardThe entire Xamarin team would like to congratulate Third Culture Apps for their 2019 Material Design Award and the just announced 2019 Best of Google Play Award for Appy Weather!
