As part of Microsoft’s secure future initiative, we’re announcing the deprecation of the Microsoft Graph API to create an online meeting without a passcode. This API will be removed on October 31, 2027.

Microsoft Teams requires that online meetings are scheduled with a passcode and we’re aligning the Microsoft Graph API with that requirement.

What is the change?

Effective February 24, 2025, the default value of the isPasscodeRequired property will be `true` instead of `false`.

  • Users will still have the option to specify whether a passcode is required when creating a meeting.
  • However, if no value is specified, the default behavior will now require a passcode for the meeting.

The isPasscodeRequired property on the joinMeetingIdSettings resource of the Microsoft Graph online meetings API will be completely removed on October 31, 2027.

What do you need to do?

  • Review and update any applications that use the Create Meeting API to ensure they account for the new default behavior.
  • If you currently rely on the absence of passcodes, explicitly set the passcode value to “false” before February 24, 2025, for meetings where passcodes are not desired.
