Announcing Public Preview of Visual Studio Marketplace

We’re excited to announce the Public Preview of the new Visual Studio Marketplace – the one place to discover and acquire extensions, integrations and subscriptions for the Visual Studio family of products. Now publishers can directly host their extensions on the Visual Studio Marketplace and engineering teams can use these extensions to build great applications for any platform and any OS.

Earlier this fall, we outlined the concept of extensibility for tools across the development lifecycle and provided an overview of how we’re enabling it for Visual Studio Team Services. The Marketplace is where this extensibility comes to life – hosting extensions for Visual Studio Team Services, Visual Studio, and Visual Studio Code.

For our users, the Visual Studio Marketplace makes it easy to discover and install extensions, organized into categories, both from the Marketplace portal and in-situ experiences from within the Visual Studio products. The Visual Studio Marketplace also enables users to purchase the Visual Studio Enterprise and Professional (monthly and annual) subscriptions. At launch of this preview, the Visual Studio Marketplace offers close to 50 Visual Studio Team Services extensions, over 60 VS Code extensions and features popular and highly rated IDE extensions out of 5,900+ extensions in the Visual Studio Gallery. Notable Visual Studio extensions and integrations include Code Search, TFS TimeTracker, Slack, HockeyApp, Package Management, Perfecto Continuous Quality Lab, Exploratory Testing and more.

Extension publishers can now easily reach the end users and developer communities by showcasing detailed information about their extensions on the Visual Studio Marketplace.

We’re working on enabling commerce and publisher profiles in the future, which will make it hassle-free for publishers to monetize their extensions. Our backlog also includes features to support integrated search, customer reviews and ratings among others.

Check out the Visual Studio Marketplace today to discover and install, or build and showcase extensions. We look forward to hearing your feedback as we continue to improve the Visual Studio Marketplace experience for users and publishers alike.
