Hello, Dev Blogs community!

We are committed to continuously enhancing your experience on Microsoft Dev Blogs, guided by your invaluable feedback. Since the recent update on our site, we heard a lot of feedback about the masonry layout. We are excited to share how we’ve adapted to make to improve your experience.

What We Heard

Your feedback highlighted key areas of improvement:

  • Hard to Skim: The varied heights of each post card made it tough to quickly scan through the posts.
  • Unclear Order: Differentiating between the most recent posts and older posts was challenging.
  • Difficult to navigate: The new layout of the main Dev Blogs page was seen as having a lot of wasted space, with large header images and excessive padding, making it hard to get to the blog posts.

How We Listened and Improved

Understanding the need for consistency and ease of use, we implemented changes that allow you to choose the format that works best for you.

  • Default Grid Layout: We’ve set the default layout to a grid format. This makes the content more structured and uniform, so it’s easier to skim through posts and find what you need quickly.

  • List Layout Option: For those who prefer a different view we have provided a list layout option. This option displays posts in a single chronological list.

Switching Between Layouts

We’ve made it easy for you to switch between the grid and list layouts:

  1. Navigate to the Layout Settings: You can find the layout options in the top-right corner of the posts, represented by a layout icon for each option.
  2. Choose Your Preferred Layout: Click on the icon to choose the grid or list layouts. Your selection will be applied immediately and will move with you as you navigate the site. So, you can enjoy your preferred view without any hassle as you move from DevBlogs main page to any blogs home page and vice-versa.

Looking Ahead

This change addresses the top 2 areas of feedback. We are working on improvements to address the remaining feedback. We are committed to evolving Dev Blogs based on your feedback. Your insights are invaluable, and we encourage you to keep sharing your thoughts with us. Keep an eye out for more changes coming soon. Thank you for being a part of our community.

this is a very useful change.

but another major problem for me who regularly visit https://devblogs.microsoft.com/ for recent news is that there is a bloat of not useful content on top of the page like the list of the blog, or large banner for .net config, large icons of the picked news. it takes a lot of space and every time i have to scroll down.
i hope there would be an option to hide it.

    Thanks, much appreciated.

    But...

    1) I couldn't "Sign in" from this page, got a message I don't have enough rights to access the page, strangly I could sign in from this news page: https://devblogs.microsoft.com/develop-from-the-cloud/streamline-setup-with-microsoft-dev-box-pre-requisites/ , so I hope this comment I am currently writing goes through, because when I went back to here and hit refresh I was logged in

    2) "Load more posts" isn't going back in the browser history save, it has the URL "https://devblogs.microsoft.com/?npe-page=2#latest-posts"...

FYI that, similar to another commenter, I could not sign in with my Microsoft account from this page.

Either way, thank you for fixing the worst issues of the redesign.
