We are happy to share with you an update to the Azure Cosmos DB networking configuration options within the Azure Portal. This update introduces a split in the IP address list, now presented as two distinct categories: user IP addresses and Portal Middleware IPs.  Managing IP access control policies is essential for maintaining a secure environment.  Earlier this year, new Portal IP addresses were introduced as part of the Azure Cosmos DB portal service upgrade. Now, you can easily update these addresses with a single click in the portal.

Understanding the Changes

This update aims to give users a more streamlined and user-friendly way to manage IP addresses. By dividing the IP addresses into two lists, you can now clearly tell apart your own from those used by our Portal Middleware. Removing Portal Legacy Middleware IPs and adding new ones is now just a click away.

How to Use the New Features

Leveraging these new features is straightforward:

Add User IP Addresses and Portal Middleware Ips:

• Within the Azure Portal, open your Azure Cosmos DB account.
• Navigate to the Networking in your Azure Cosmos DB account.
• Select Public network access: Selected networks
• Find the two separate lists for IP addresses: one for user IPs and one for Portal Middleware IPs.
• To add or remove Portal Middleware IPs, simply click the designated link.  They must be first added for the option to remove them to appear.
  • – Add Azure Portal Middleware IPs
  • – Remove Azure Portal Middleware IPs
• Click Save.

Remove Azure Cosmos DB Portal Legacy Middleware IPs:

• Within the Azure Portal, open your Azure Cosmos DB account.
• Navigate to the Networking in your Azure Cosmos DB account.
• Select Public network access: Selected networks
• To remove Portal Legacy Middleware IPs, simply click the designated link: Remove Portal Legacy Middleware IPs. This option will only appear if you have Portal Legacy Middleware IPs in your list.  Visit our docs to review the Portal Legacy Middleware IPs.
• Click Save.
