App Center Analytics & Diagnostics Data Retention

Jihye Eom

Mobile developers use App Center Analytics to gain insights into their applications’ users and their usage and use App Center Diagnostics to monitor their applications’ health and dig into unexpected failures. We are committed to keeping these services healthy and reliable, and as part of that we are making some changes to our data retention policies.

Today, Analytics and Diagnostics data is retained for 90 days by default, with very few caps on the volume of data generated per application. This has led to unsustainably high data volumes across these two services. Today we are announcing a scaling back of the data retention policy in App Center. Starting June 30, 2022, Analytics and Diagnostics data retention will be limited to 28 days.

If you need access to more than 28 days of Analytics or Diagnostics data, we recommend setting up continuous export to Application Insights and/or Azure Storage. If having continuous access to 90 days of data is important for your application, make sure to set up continuous export by March 31st for Application Insights or April 30th for Azure Storage.

Find more information on setting up continuous export in our documentation. Feel free to reach out to our support if you have any questions. We would be more than happy to assist you from there.

This is very disappointing to hear. Please provide a way to opt out.
The value of App Center keeps diminishing. Most of the posts on this blog are about deprecations and discontinuations!😢

I agree with other comments about being disappointed to read this. 😢

Especially because there is no way to capture exception data from Application Insights. Unless I am unaware of how to do this. 🙂

Please provide a path which will allow us to keep our valuable data.

    Thank you 🙏

Disappointing. The active user graph and adoption chart were the only interesting things on the analytics dashboard. Now they will be useless. I get that it’s a free service positioned to sell App Insights subs, but I would gladly pay for App Center if that were also an option. The client-side SDK seems well-maintained and the service is reliable. I did take a look at App Insights last year but found it too complicated. We’re not data scientists. We just want a user-friendly way to allow our team (various levels of technical ability) view some usage trends. We will likely continue to use AppCenter for crash reporting, but definitely appears to be time to look into a separate service for analytics.
