{"id":1368,"date":"2012-04-06T10:47:31","date_gmt":"2012-04-06T14:47:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.xamarin.com\/?p=1368"},"modified":"2012-04-06T10:47:31","modified_gmt":"2012-04-06T14:47:31","slug":"mono-for-android-4-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/xamarin\/mono-for-android-4-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Mono for Android 4.1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tWe have been working on various major upgrades to Mono for Android, and today we are releasing it to users in the updater&#8217;s Alpha Release Channel.<\/p>\n<p>These are some of the highlights of this release:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Java Bindings: we now have a project type that you can use to bind third-party Java libraries<\/li>\n<li>Android Compatibility Library bindings: now you can use the compatibility libraries that allow developers to use new Android APIs on older devices.<\/li>\n<li>Strongly-typed APIs: we improved upon the Java bindings by providing strongly typed enumeration values, reducing the amount of guesswork required when using Android APIs and letting the IDE do the work for you.<\/li>\n<li>C# dynamic is now supported on Android<\/li>\n<li>Extended our Java interop story: it is now easier to expose C# APIs to the Java world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other features include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Smaller development runtime (50% smaller)<\/li>\n<li>Device picker in Visual Studio (for those of you testing\/deploying to multiple Android devices)<\/li>\n<li>New templates for Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and Android Fragments<\/li>\n<li>Usability fixes to our Visual Studio plugin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Check the <a title=\"Mono for Android 1.0 Release Notes\" href=\"http:\/\/docs.xamarin.com\/android\/Releases\/Mono_For_Android_4\/Mono_for_Android_4.1.0\">release notes<\/a> for all the other features and the details on the above features.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have been working on various major upgrades to Mono for Android, and today we are releasing it to users in the updater&#8217;s Alpha Release Channel.
