Before installing the release of Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1<\/a>, you must uninstall the Service Pack 1 Beta<\/a>. If you do not uninstall the beta first, you will receive the following message localized appropriately for Windows, <\/p>\n

“The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.” <\/p>\n

To uninstall the beta, please follow the instructions below appropriate to your Windows platform. <\/p>\n

  1. Click Start<\/strong> <\/li>\n
  2. Click Control Panel<\/strong> <\/li>\n
  3. Open Add\/Remove Programs<\/strong> <\/li>\n
  4. Select Service Pack 1 beta for each product to which it’s applied, and click Change\/Remove<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    2. Click Control Panel<\/strong> <\/li>\n

    4. Check Show updates<\/strong> if not already checked <\/li>\n
    5. Select Service Pack 1 beta nested under each product to which it’s applied, and click Remove<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      2. Click Control Panel<\/strong> <\/li>\n
      3. Click Programs<\/strong> <\/li>\n
      4. Click View installed updates<\/strong> <\/li>\n
      5. Select Service Pack 1 beta for each product to which it’s applied, and click Uninstall<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        This is Windows error<\/a> ERROR_PATCH_TARGET_NOT_FOUND<\/span> (1642) and is returned because the SP1 beta updated the ProductVersion property<\/a> and SP1 release will not supersede it<\/a>. Since the ProductVersion updated by the SP1 beta is not the ProductVersion that SP1 release targets, Windows Installer returns 1642 and will display this message if not installing silently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
