TechEd 2014 Expo Hall Reception
Summary: Microsoft Scripting Guy, Ed Wilson, talks about the Expo Hall at TechEd 2014 in Houston, Texas.
Wow…we were, in a word, mobbed. During the entire two and a half hours that the TechEd Expo reception was going on tonight, we were mobbed. It may have been (in fact, was probably), due to our two special guests Jeffrey Snover and Mark Minasi. There were so many people lined up to see and to talk to Jeffrey, that he actually ended up staying for over an hour and a half. At one point Mark and Jeffrey were sitting side-by-side at the Scripting Guys Booth and tag teaming questions. I overheard one person who was crowded around exclaim, “Man, do you realize how much it would cost to have Jeffrey Snover and Mark Minasi sit around and answer your questions for an hour?”
Windows PowerShell MVP, Jason Helmick, from PowerShell.org was on hand fielding questions. At one point, he and Jeffrey Snover were answering questions.
More than once tonight, I walked up to someone and I said, “Hi, I am Ed Wilson, the Scripting Guy.”
And they would say, “Oh, wow, is the Scripting Wife here?” And I would point them to where she might be standing. One guy came up wearing the PowerShell Saturday #007 shirt from the Charlotte, NC event, "Hi, remember me? I was at PowerShell Saturday in Charlotte? By the way where is the Scripting Wife?"
"Over there," I say.
Jaap Brasser is one of our booth volunteers this year, he was extremely busy handing out our DSC resource guide book and the Dr. Scripto fun book to our visitors. At one point, Windows PowerShell MVP, Sean Kearny, stopped by.
Some of the really cool questions I got tonight were about DSC. It seems there is great interest in DSC and what it can do to help out some common configuration issues. There were many who just wanted to stop by and say thanks for writing the Hey, Scripting Guy! Blog, and I heard on many occasions how some bit of script I had written had helped out with serious problems. These are the sorts of things that really make one feel good. I had a couple of questions about source control, and a few about performance tuning for scripts.
All in all, it was a great time. We followed it up with the MVP party at Howl at the Moon, where there were still Windows PowerShell questions, but they were in a more laid back environment.
Tomorrow morning, the Scripting Guys Booth opens at 11:00 AM, and if you came by tonight and we're not able to get your questions answered, make sure you stop back by so we can talk. Tomorrow evening, the Scripting Guys have a table or two at Ask the Experts, and it will also be a great time to ask questions.
