We are pleased to announce that the\u00a0<\/span>June<\/span>\u00a020<\/span>20<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>release of the Python Extension for Visual Studio Code is now available. You can<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>download the Python extension<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>from the\u00a0Marketplace,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>or\u00a0install it directly from the extension gallery in Visual Studio Code. If you already have the Python extension installed, you can also get the latest update by restarting Visual Studio Code. You can learn more about \u202f<\/span>Python support in Visual Studio Code<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>in the documentation.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this release we\u00a0<\/span>worked on new features such as run by line and a start page,\u00a0<\/span>in addition to addressing\u00a0<\/span>53<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>issues<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>If you\u2019re interested, you can check the\u00a0<\/span>full list of improvements i<\/span>n\u00a0<\/span>our\u00a0<\/span>changelog<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re excited\u00a0<\/span>that in\u00a0<\/span>this\u00a0<\/span>release<\/span>, we\u2019re introducing<\/span> run-by-line, a simplified\u00a0<\/span><\/span>way for troubleshooting\u00a0<\/span><\/span>issues\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>N<\/span><\/span>otebook<\/span><\/span>\u00a0cells<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span>To help<\/span>\u00a0diagnose your\u00a0<\/span>Notebook code,\u00a0<\/span>r<\/span>un-by-line<\/span>\u00a0lets you step through the code in your cells\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>line-by-line\u00a0<\/span>fashion\u00a0<\/span>and view the state of your\u00a0<\/span>variables\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0<\/span>each<\/span>\u00a0step via the variable explorer or data tips<\/span>\u00a0(hovering your mouse over the variab<\/span>le)<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To start\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>\u00a0session<\/span>, click the\u00a0<\/span>run-by-line icon to the right of the run-cell icon in the cell. Once in a run-by-line session, you can\u00a0<\/span>run th<\/span>e currently highlighted line of code<\/span>\u00a0by pressing the\u00a0<\/span>same<\/span>\u00a0icon again<\/span>. To exit, click the stop button next to\u00a0<\/span>the run-by-line\u00a0<\/span>icon in the cell.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
