{"id":6799,"date":"2025-04-28T16:41:38","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T23:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/?p=6799"},"modified":"2025-05-12T16:01:17","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T23:01:17","slug":"capturing-video-frames-in-timing-captures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/capturing-video-frames-in-timing-captures\/","title":{"rendered":"Capturing video frames in Timing Captures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starting with the <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/pix-2505-09\/\">2505.09 release<\/a> of PIX on Windows, an option has been added to Timing Captures to record video frames along with the timing data.\u00a0 If the option to collect video frames is selected before a capture is taken, PIX will add a lane named Video Frames to the Timeline view. This lane will contain images that show the video frames over the duration of a capture. Viewing video frames alongside timing data allows you to see the state of the title at the point where a performance problem occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Select the \u201c<strong>Select a video capture source\u2026<\/strong>\u201d button to opt in to collecting video frames.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_option.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6800\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_option.jpg\" alt=\"winpix video frame option image\" width=\"588\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_option.jpg 588w, https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_option-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 588px) 100vw, 588px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Doing so displays a dialog prompting you to select a video source.\u00a0 You can choose to collect video for all the content on a given monitor, or for a specific window.\u00a0 Clicking the desired source closes the dialog and enables video capture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_source_dialog.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6801\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_source_dialog.jpg\" alt=\"winpix video frame source dialog image\" width=\"624\" height=\"484\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_source_dialog.jpg 624w, https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_source_dialog-300x233.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When a capture is opened, the Video Frames lane shows the image of each frame aligned with the lanes containing the timing data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_timeline_lane.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6802\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_timeline_lane.jpg\" alt=\"winpix video frame timeline lane image\" width=\"624\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_timeline_lane.jpg 624w, https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/pix\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2025\/04\/winpix_video_frame_timeline_lane-300x179.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Selecting a frame populates the\u00a0<strong>Element Details<\/strong>\u00a0view with the detailed image. By default, the image will be viewed in &#8220;fill&#8221; mode, in which the image will be scaled to fit in the\u00a0<strong>Element Details<\/strong>\u00a0window.
