{"id":97925,"date":"2018-01-30T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-01-30T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/?p=97925"},"modified":"2019-03-13T01:03:32","modified_gmt":"2019-03-13T08:03:32","slug":"20180130-00","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20180130-00\/?p=97925","title":{"rendered":"Why does hypervisor remain enabled even when Hyper-V is disabled in Windows Features?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A customer found that even though they set <a HREF=\"https:\/\/blogs.technet.microsoft.com\/keithcombs\/2009\/12\/08\/hypervisorlaunchtype-not-set-after-bcd-changes-here-is-the-fix\/\">the hypervisorlaunchtype to <i>off<\/i> in the boot configuration<\/a>, and they unchecked <i>Hyper-V<\/i> in the <i>Turn Windows features on or off<\/i> dialog, they found that hypervisor was still enabled. As a result, Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager refuses to create a 64-bit guest. <\/p>\n<p>Someone from the kernel team explained that the hypervisor might still be enabled in the UEFI, so that&#8217;s one thing to check. <\/p>\n<p>Another thing that will force the hypervisor on is <a HREF=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows-hardware\/design\/device-experiences\/oem-vbs\">Virtualization-Based Security<\/a>, which goes by the acronym VBS.
