{"id":92771,"date":"2016-01-04T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-04T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/?p=92771"},"modified":"2019-03-13T10:28:30","modified_gmt":"2019-03-13T17:28:30","slug":"20160104-00","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20160104-00\/?p=92771","title":{"rendered":"Slam City with Scottie Pippen (1995): A flashback"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For some reason, I was reminded of this game. <\/p>\n<p>It appears from <a HREF=\"http:\/\/semajblogeater.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/slam-city-with-scottie-pippen-holy-crap.html\">all<\/a> <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.sega-16.com\/2012\/11\/slam-city-with-scotty-pippen\/\">reports<\/a> that the SEGA version of this game sucked. <\/p>\n<p>Well, the PC version sucked too. <\/p>\n<p>It was basically a port of <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.atariarchives.org\/bcc1\/#Computer Games\">some game from <i>Creative Computing<\/i><\/a>. <\/p>\n<pre>\nYou have the ball. You can\n\n1. Drive left\n2. Drive right\n3. Shoot\n\nYour choice ?\n<\/pre>\n<p>Your player was represented as a sprite of a photograph of a basketball player, and if you said &#8220;3&#8221;, for example, the sprite moved up, then back down, and then you learned whether the ball went in. At least that&#8217;s how I remember it. <\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.bing.com\/videos\/search?q=slam%20city%20with%20scottie%20pippen\">This phenomenal gameplay<\/a> was supported by four CDs. <\/p>\n<p>Oh, and the goal of the game was not to score more points than your opponent. That would be too easy. The goal of the game is to earn &#8220;respect&#8221;, so that you could someday play against the Big Boss: Scottie Pippen. <\/p>\n<p>I had to figure out why the opening title sequence of the game didn&#8217;t work on Windows&nbsp;95. <\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think I solved that one. The opening title sequence never worked on Windows&nbsp;95, at least not without using MS-DOS mode. I console myself by thinking that removing the title sequence was an improvement. It meant that you would waste less time playing this stupid game. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No video?
