This has nothing to do with the way the term is used at Microsoft.\n In fact, the way the term is used at Microsoft, I have no idea what it means. But here are citations. The first is from an upper-level executive:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"q\"><p> Before we start the meeting, let me <i>level-set<\/i>. Here&#8217;s what we plan to accomplish today. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> The next is from a presentation to a large group on some investigative work a team undertook. After the presenter spent a few minutes discussing the background of the problem:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"q\"><p> That&#8217;s some <i>level-setting<\/i> on the hardware we had available for investigation. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> Here are some citations from presentation slide decks:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"q\"><p>  <b>Agenda<\/b> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8230; <\/li>\n<li>Pre-work check and Level Set <\/li>\n<li>&#8230; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"q\"><p> <b>Initial Data gathering and Level Setting<\/b> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"q\"><p> Teams share solution overviews, roadmaps and architecture views with each other to level set. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> (Notice that <i>level-set<\/i> is as a verb.)<\/p>\n<p> From what I can gather, level-setting is some sort of blend of expectation-setting and <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/oldnewthing\/archive\/2007\/03\/27\/1956484.aspx\"> calibration<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In mathematics, a level set is the set of points at which a function takes a particular value.
