It is a beer mug from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayerischer-bahnhof.de\/\">Bayerischer Bahnhof<\/a>, a restaurant and brewery at the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leipzig_Bayerischer_Bahnhof\"> Leipzig Bayerischer Bahnhof<\/a>. The mug carries the brewery&#8217;s slogan <i>In vollen Z&uuml;gen genie&szlig;en<\/i>, which is a German idiom meaning &#8220;to enjoy to the fullest.&#8221; Literally, &#8220;<span lang=\"de\">Das Leben in vollen Z&uuml;gen genie&szlig;en<\/span>&#8221; means &#8220;to enjoy life in full gulps&#8221;, the idea being that instead of sipping your way through life, you&#8217;re taking huge gulps of it.\n The slogan is a pun, though, for the Bayerischer Bahnhof, because the word <i>Zug<\/i> also means train. They come from the root <i>ziehen<\/i> which means &#8220;to pull&#8221;. (Compare the English word <i>draught<\/i>, which has a similar duality.)\n Therefore, the saying &#8220;<span lang=\"de\">Das Leben in vollen Z&uuml;gen genie&szlig;en<\/span>&#8221; could also be interpreted as saying &#8220;Enjoy life in crowded trains.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> Which is why it&#8217;s the slogan of a brewery in a train station. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my friends bought me a souvenir one one of his trips to Germany.
