{"id":44713,"date":"2015-02-10T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/2015\/02\/10\/staying-cool-is-one-of-the-skills-of-a-corporate-president\/"},"modified":"2019-03-13T12:12:46","modified_gmt":"2019-03-13T19:12:46","slug":"20150210-00","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20150210-00\/?p=44713","title":{"rendered":"Staying cool is one of the skills of a corporate president"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some time ago, there was a mechanical problem with the heating\/cooling system in our part of the building, and one of the senior managers in our group took the opportunity to tell a story of a one-on-one <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.wilymanager.com\/skip-level-meeting\/\">skip-level meeting<\/a> he had with Steve Sinofsky. <\/p>\n<blockquote CLASS=\"q\">\n<p>I&#8217;m sitting there in my office with Steve, and there was something wrong with the <a HREF=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/HVAC\">HVAC<\/a>, because as the meeting progresses, it gets warmer and warmer, and eventually I&#8217;m sitting there sweating profusely, not exactly making the best impression on our group president. Steve, on the other hand, appears to be completely unaffected. It&#8217;s sweltering in my office, but he&#8217;s cool as a cucumber. <\/p>\n<p>It can&#8217;t be more than five minutes after the meeting is over before a team of technicians swarms into my office to figure out why the heating system has gone berzerk. <\/p>\n<p>Steve must&#8217;ve whipped out his phone as soon as he left, called the Facilities desk, and said &#8220;Dude, there&#8217;s something seriously wrong with the heating system over in room 1234. It&#8217;s like an oven in there.
