But it may have lost that title due to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=8298060\"> this comment thread<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"q\"><p>I read <a href=\"http:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/Tech\/Tech-News\/Steve-Ballmer-apparently-wrote-the-Blue-Screen-of-Death\/articleshow\/41801284.cms\"> here<\/a> that Steve Ballmer wrote part of [the blue screen of death] too.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The comment linked to one of many articles that erroneously reported that Steve wrote the blue screen of death.<\/p>\n<p>Somebody replied,<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"m\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20140909-00\/?p=44123\"> Seriously<\/a>?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>linking back to my article where I set the record straight.<\/p>\n<p>Undeterred, the original commenter wrote,<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"q\"><p>LOL! so far only MSDN has been refuting the claim.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and linked to two technology sites which reported the story incorrectly, using my original article as the source.<\/p>\n<p>Just goes to show that a lie repeated often enough becomes the truth.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and by the way, the phrase &#8220;blue screen of death&#8221; did not really apply to the blue screen messages in Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. As we saw earlier, <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20140909-00\/?p=44123\"> the Windows 3.1 fatal error message was a black screen of death<\/a>, and in Windows 95, the blue screen message was more a <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20140910-00\/?p=44113\"> screen of profound injury<\/a> rather than death. (Windows 95 was sort of like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zKhEw7nD9C4\"> the Black Knight<\/a>, trying very hard to continue the fight despite having lost all of its limbs.)<\/p>\n<p>The phrase &#8220;blue screen of death&#8221; was generally attributed to the blue screen fatal error message of Windows NT.
