{"id":25613,"date":"2007-08-13T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-13T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/2007\/08\/13\/why-is-the-blogs-subtitle-not-actually-a-net-blog\/"},"modified":"2007-08-13T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-13T10:00:00","slug":"why-is-the-blogs-subtitle-not-actually-a-net-blog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20070813-00\/?p=25613","title":{"rendered":"Why is the blog&#039;s subtitle &#034;Not actually a .NET blog&#034;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Based on <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/oldnewthing\/archive\/2006\/08\/07\/690947.aspx\"> the feedback from my last CLR week<\/a>, I think one CLR week a year is about right, Welcome to CLR Week 2007.\n I&#8217;ll kick off the week with something not actually technical, but which might be puzzling to the newcomers: Why is the blog&#8217;s subtitle &#8220;Not actually a .NET blog&#8221;?\n When I started, the blog hosting site for Microsoft technical bloggers was <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.gotdotnet.com\/\">blogs.gotdotnet.com<\/a>, and this site was consequently located at <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.gotdotnet.com\/oldnewthing\/\"> blogs.gotdotnet.com\/oldnewthing<\/a>. (The old address still works. Blog backward compatibility, I guess.) It was the .NET folks like <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/brada\/\">Brad Abrams<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/cbrumme\/\">Chris Brumme<\/a> who started the big wave of Microsoft blogging in 2003, and when they set me up, they set me up with what they had.\n I chose the subtitle, therefore, because the name gotdotnet.com implied that all the blogs would be .NET-related, but mine wasn&#8217;t. The blog moved to <a href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.asp.net\/\"> weblogs.asp.net<\/a> and then to <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/\"> blogs.msdn.com<\/a>, so the .NET assumption no longer applied, but I kept the tag line anyway.<\/p>\n<p> (If you want something technical for the start of CLR Week, may I recommend <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/ericgu\/archive\/2005\/12\/13\/503225.aspx\"> this puzzle from Eric Gunnerson on how overloaded functions are resolved in derived classes<\/a> and this <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/nealho\/archive\/2006\/01\/19\/515173.aspx\"> bonus puzzle from Neal Horowitz<\/a>.
