It took a while, but the story finally settled out.<\/p>\n<p> Recapping the story so far (links in the original article): The driver&#8217;s attorneys eventually succeeded in having her released from jail (where she had been held on $300,000 bail) to a treatment center. <\/p>\n<p> In April 2008, <a href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/html\/localnews\/2004358166_apwaduiguilty.html\"> the driver pled guilty to driving while intoxicated<\/a> and in June 2008 was sentenced to <a href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/html\/localnews\/2008022427_dui28m.html\"> one year in prison<\/a> for that offense, plus additional days for other offenses, totalling 440 days in jail; plus 90 days of electronic home monitoring, fines, attendance at alcohol-education classes, and other unspecified penalties. That last article also runs down the four separate traffic incidents the driver has been involved in: Driving on the shoulder past a line of stopped cars and becoming involved in a three-car collision, the incident which raised so much public attention. A hit-and-run accident. And two more incidents of driving while intoxicated. <\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/oldnewthing\/archive\/2008\/01\/02\/6950841.aspx#6958028\"> Unfortunately<\/a>, permanent suspension of driving privileges was not listed among the penalties. <\/p>\n<p> Other high blood alcohol levels: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>     <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/n\/a\/2008\/07\/22\/national\/a120340D56.DTL\">     0.491 percent<\/a> in Rhode Island. <\/li>\n<li>     <a href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/html\/localnews\/2004094566_webdui27m.html\">     0.55 percent<\/a> in Oregon. <\/li>\n<li>     <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesmokinggun.com\/archive\/washley1.html\">     0.69 percent<\/a> in Indiana. <\/li>\n<li>     <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/story\/world\/national\/2005\/01\/04\/drunk-bulgarian-050104.html\">     0.914 percent<\/a> in Bulgaria. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A year ago, I noted that a new DUI record had been set for the state of Washington.
