{"id":107124,"date":"2022-09-06T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/?p=107124"},"modified":"2022-09-05T19:24:47","modified_gmt":"2022-09-06T02:24:47","slug":"20220906-00","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20220906-00\/?p=107124","title":{"rendered":"Commonly-supported Windows shortcuts for pasting without formatting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes you just want to paste as plain text.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox all support <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd>+<kbd>Shift<\/kbd>+<kbd>V<\/kbd> as a keyboard shortcut for &#8220;paste as plain text.&#8221; This means that <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd>+<kbd>Shift<\/kbd>+<kbd>V<\/kbd> also works in browser-based apps, like Teams.<\/p>\n<p>Programs in the Microsoft Office suite naturally <a title=\"Why does Outlook map Ctrl+F to Forward instead of Find, like all right-thinking programs?\" href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20140715-00\/?p=503\"> do things a little differently<\/a>, and the way to paste as plain text is to hit <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd>+<kbd>Alt<\/kbd>+<kbd>V<\/kbd> and then select &#8220;Unformatted Text&#8221;. Alternatively, you can do <kbd>Alt<\/kbd>, <kbd>H<\/kbd>, <kbd>V<\/kbd>, <kbd>T<\/kbd>. Note that the keys are pressed and released in sequence, not held simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>One trick I use if I need to strip formatting from the clipboard is to use the key sequence <kbd>Win<\/kbd>+<kbd>R<\/kbd>, <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd>+<kbd>V<\/kbd>, <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd>+<kbd>A<\/kbd>, <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd>+<kbd>C<\/kbd>, <kbd>Esc<\/kbd>.
