{"id":2463,"date":"2015-03-05T19:38:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-05T19:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/odatateam\/2015\/03\/05\/odata-team-embraces-open-source\/"},"modified":"2015-03-05T19:38:00","modified_gmt":"2015-03-05T19:38:00","slug":"odata-team-embraces-open-source","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/odata\/odata-team-embraces-open-source\/","title":{"rendered":"OData team embraces open source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear OData lovers,<\/p>\n<p>As many of you may have already noticed, the OData team is embracing open source.<\/p>\n<h2>What does this empower you to do?<\/h2>\n<p>You now can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>About codes<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Get and build them<\/li>\n<li>Run tests: unit tests, functional tests &amp; end-to-end tests<\/li>\n<li>Be involved into development via pull requests and get them actively reviewed and merged<\/li>\n<li>Asking features\/raising bugs about them via GitHub issues<\/li>\n<li>Observe our development via the commits<\/li>\n<li>Watch our execution and planning via GitHub isuses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>About documents<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>View them<\/li>\n<li>Comment on them using the Disqus infrastructure we leverage<\/li>\n<li>Be involved into content writing by forking the &#8220;gh-pages&#8221; branch of the repositories, writing in Markdown format, and sending pull requests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Great, but how?<\/h2>\n<p>To empower you to do the things mentioned above, we now:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open source all our projects on GitHub. They are:<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>ODataLib, EdmLib, OData Client for .NET, the spatial library, and OData Client Code Generator:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/OData\/odata.net\">https:\/\/github.com\/OData\/odata.net<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Web API for OData:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/OData\/WebApi\">https:\/\/github.com\/OData\/WebApi<\/a><\/li>\n<li>RESTier:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/OData\/RESTier\">https:\/\/github.com\/OData\/RESTier<\/a><\/li>\n<li>And more others in the OData organization:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/OData\">https:\/\/github.com\/OData<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Start to use GitHub pages to host our documentation for samples:<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/odata.github.io\/odata.net\/\">https:\/\/odata.github.io\/odata.net\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/odata.github.io\/WebApi\/\">http:\/\/odata.github.io\/WebApi\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/odata.github.io\/RESTier\/\">http:\/\/odata.github.io\/RESTier\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>If you find the links above hard to remember, there is a home page with a shorter URL:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/odata.github.io\/\">http:\/\/odata.github.io\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Start to develop directly on GitHub<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Commit frequently instead of once after every binary release<\/li>\n<li>Track tasks, enhancements, and bugs on GitHub issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How is this different from what we did before?<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s different in many ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Uniformity: all on GitHub. No more some-on-GitHub and some-on-CodePlex.<\/li>\n<li>Transparency: transparent planning via GitHub issues and transparent execution via commit history.<\/li>\n<li>Involvement: code contribution via pull requests and issue contribution via GitHub issues are available and will be actively reviewed and merged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Have we finished?<\/h2>\n<p>No. We are still beginners in doing the real open source. We&#8217;d love to learn from your help to improve in any aspect.
