Most importantly, we reached general availability of SharePoint Framework 1.23, which represents a key step forward in our continued investment in a modern, stable, and scalable development model for Microsoft 365. This release builds on the foundations we have been evolving over the past releases and sets the stage for the next wave of innovation, especially around AI-powered solutions.

May has been another strong month for connecting with the global community. Events like the European Collaboration Summit continue to bring together developers, partners, and customers to share real-world experiences and practical solutions. These conversations are incredibly valuable in ensuring that SPFx continues to evolve in a way that reflects actual business needs. This is a community-driven journey, and the strength of SPFx is directly tied to your participation and feedback.

At the same time, we continue to be inspired by the community momentum around SPFx. Whether you joined us at events, engaged in discussions, contributed to open source, or shared feedback, your input continues to directly shape the direction of the platform.

SharePoint Framework 1.23 is now generally available

As we shared earlier in May, SharePoint Framework 1.23 has reached general availability. This release focused on strengthening the platform for long-term success by improving developer productivity, modernizing the tooling experience, and expanding extensibility options across Microsoft 365.

A few highlights from this release include:

Enhanced list extensibility with grouping support for ListView Command Sets, enabling more structured and user-friendly command experiences in lists and libraries

Preview of the new SPFx CLI, which will evolve how solutions are created and managed, moving towards a more flexible and open model with community-driven templates

Continued focus on platform quality and security, ensuring that solutions built with SPFx remain reliable at enterprise scale

SPFx continues to be the most widely used extensibility model for building solutions across SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Viva, with usage at massive global scale.

This release is also an important foundation for what comes next. While 1.23 is focused on stability and readiness, upcoming releases will introduce additional capabilities aligned with modernization and AI.

Looking ahead – AI, Copilot and upcoming investments 💡

As we move forward, our investments are increasingly focused on enabling AI-powered solutions and intelligent experiences across Microsoft 365. In the April update, we shared early signals on upcoming AI-focused capabilities planned for SPFx, with initial experiences targeted for public preview in the upcoming releases. This direction continues to be one of our top priorities in May and during upcoming months.

Our roadmap investments are focused on:

Enabling developers to build Copilot-ready and AI-enhanced applications

Simplifying how solutions integrate with Microsoft 365 data and services

Providing more flexible and modern tooling to accelerate development

Expanding real-world business scenarios through extensibility

We are evolving SPFx not only as a development model, but as a key foundation for building intelligent, enterprise-ready solutions for the AI era. Here are the current topics in top of our mind within these areas, providing you insights into the upcoming key announcements.

More details will be shared in the coming months as we move these capabilities closer to public preview.

We want your feedback – Spring 2026 feedback survey 👋

As part of shaping the future of SPFx, we are currently running our Spring 2026 feedback survey.

This survey is open until early June and is one of the most impactful ways for you to influence our roadmap.
