{"id":863,"date":"2013-07-10T18:30:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-10T18:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/2013\/07\/10\/httpclient-2-2-is-now-rc\/"},"modified":"2021-10-04T12:28:36","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T19:28:36","slug":"httpclient-2-2-is-now-rc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/httpclient-2-2-is-now-rc\/","title":{"rendered":"HttpClient 2.2 is now RC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we are happy to announce the next step in providing a portable <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/dotnet\/archive\/2013\/06\/19\/update-to-httpclient-and-automatic-decompression.aspx\">HttpClient with automatic decompression<\/a>: we just <a href=\"http:\/\/nuget.org\/packages\/Microsoft.Net.Http\">pushed the RC version to NuGet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>From Beta to RTM<\/h2>\n<p>We haven&rsquo;t changed much since the beta we <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/dotnet\/archive\/2013\/06\/19\/update-to-httpclient-and-automatic-decompression.aspx\">shipped three weeks ago<\/a> &ndash; simply because we didn&rsquo;t have to.<\/p>\n<p>In general we follow these steps when shipping functionality via NuGet:<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2013\/07\/7345.Picture1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2013\/07\/7345.Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<td>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Beta<\/strong>. Feature work is first released in (potentially multiple) beta builds only.<\/li>\n<li><strong>RC<\/strong>. Once we think a feature is mature enough (based on internal testing as well as customer feedback), we release an RC.<\/li>\n<li><strong>RTM<\/strong>. If there aren&rsquo;t any major bugs, we turn (generally the same) bits into an RTM, which NuGet calls a stable release.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>For HttpClient 2.2 we&rsquo;ve changed the following since the beta:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Disabled write stream buffering on Windows Phone 8 when <a href=\"http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/system.net.http.httpclienthandler.allowautoredirect.aspx\">AllowAutoRedirect<\/a> is set to <strong>false<\/strong>, which reduces memory usage.<\/li>\n<li>Enabled setting credentials for Silverlight when using the client networking stack<\/li>\n<li>Fixed some exception messages which referred to nonexistent APIs<\/li>\n<li>Made package metadata updates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Summary<\/h2>\n<p>Today we&rsquo;ve shipped the RC for HttpClient 2.2, which updates <a href=\"http:\/\/nuget.org\/packages\/Microsoft.Net.Http\">HttpClient<\/a> by adding support for automatic decompression. It&#8217;s supported on .NET 4.0, Windows Phone 7.5, and partially supported on Silverlight (see <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/dotnet\/archive\/2013\/06\/19\/update-to-httpclient-and-automatic-decompression.aspx#silverlight\">this blog post for details<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Assuming we don&rsquo;t receive any reports of critical issues, we plan to publish an RTM version of HttpClient with automatic decompression within the next two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Please let us know how the updated HttpClient 2.2 works for you!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today we are happy to announce the next step in providing a portable HttpClient with automatic decompression: we just pushed the RC version to NuGet.
