{"id":4464,"date":"2008-05-12T03:58:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-12T03:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/webdev\/2008\/05\/12\/error-installing-visual-studio-2008-sp1-beta-and-silverlight-tools-beta-1\/"},"modified":"2008-05-12T03:58:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-12T03:58:00","slug":"error-installing-visual-studio-2008-sp1-beta-and-silverlight-tools-beta-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/error-installing-visual-studio-2008-sp1-beta-and-silverlight-tools-beta-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Error installing Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta and Silverlight Tools Beta 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><b>Summary<\/b> <\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/downloads\/details.aspx?FamilyId=E0BAE58E-9C0B-4090-A1DB-F134D9F095FD&amp;displaylang=en\">Silverlight Tools Beta 1<\/a> for Visual Studio 2008 is not compatible with Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta.&#160;&#160; The good news is that Silverlight Tools Beta 2 for Visual Studio 2008 SP1 is coming soon.&#160; Until then you will not be able to install both Silverlight Tools and Visual Studio 2008 SP1.<\/p>\n<p>Until Silverlight Tools Beta 2 ships you&#8217;ll need to uninstall Silverlight Tools Beta 1 to evaluate Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta.&#160; Likewise, if you&#8217;ve already installed Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta then you&#8217;ll need to uninstall it before installing Silverlight Tools Beta 1.<\/p>\n<h3>Error installing VS SP1 Beta<\/h3>\n<p>If you install Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta while Silverlight Tools Beta 1 is installed you&#8217;ll get this error message:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1 (Beta) does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your system. Please click the link below for more details.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Here is a screen shot of the error dialog:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2019\/02\/image_2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-top-width: 0px;border-left-width: 0px;border-bottom-width: 0px;border-right-width: 0px\" height=\"477\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2008\/05\/image_thumb.png\" width=\"511\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The get <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkID=110456\">more information<\/a> link from the dialog above takes you to the readme for Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta which includes the following information:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><b>2.1.4.Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 cannot install when SilverLight Tools is installed on machine <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (Beta) will not install if you have Silverlight Tools already installed on your system. The following error message will show up if you attempt the installation:      <br \/>Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1 (Beta) does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your system. Please click the link below for more details.       <br \/>If you wish to apply Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 to your Visual Studio 2008 installation, you must first uninstall Silverlight Tools. <\/p>\n<p><u>To resolve this issue:<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Uninstall steps for Silverlight Tools are as follows: <\/p>\n<p>(Note if you installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 with a DVD you will first need to insert the DVD into your computer before proceeding with the uninstall of Silverlight Tools).<\/p>\n<p>For Vista or newer: <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the Remove Programs dialog from the Control Panel <\/li>\n<li>Uninstall Silverlight Tools Beta for VS2008 <\/li>\n<li>Click &#8216;View installed updates&#8217; in the task bar on the left <\/li>\n<li>Remove KB949325 (it will be listed under your version of VS2008) <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For pre-Vista systems: <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the Add\/Remove Programs dialog from the Control Panel <\/li>\n<li>Uninstall Silverlight Tools Beta for VS2008 <\/li>\n<li>Click &#8216;Show updates&#8217; at the top of the window <\/li>\n<li>Remove KB 949325 (it will be listed under your version of VS) <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Optional addendum to both:      <br \/>5. Uninstall Silverlight 2 SDK (this will also uninstall the ASP.NET server controls used for hosting Silverlight applications).
