The release is a major milestone in the long history of Entity Framework that began before\nversion 1.0 was shipped with .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 in 2008. EF Core 5.0 is <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/ef\/core\/platforms\/\">cross-platform<\/a>\nand supports all of the most popular <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/ef\/core\/providers\/\">relational databases<\/a>. It also provides a\nconsistent API to interface with the popular NoSQL <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/ef\/core\/providers\/cosmos\/\">Azure Cosmos DB<\/a> database.\nEF Core 5.0 includes <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/ef\/core\/what-is-new\/ef-core-5.0\/whatsnew\">scores of new features<\/a> ranging from\n&#8220;many-to-many&#8221; and &#8220;table-per-type&#8221; to an updated migrations experience.
