{"id":2353,"date":"2008-11-04T01:41:49","date_gmt":"2008-11-04T01:41:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/pfxteam\/2008\/11\/04\/using-hyper-v-with-the-visual-studio-2010-and-net-framework-4-0-ctp\/"},"modified":"2008-11-04T01:41:49","modified_gmt":"2008-11-04T01:41:49","slug":"using-hyper-v-with-the-visual-studio-2010-and-net-framework-4-0-ctp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/using-hyper-v-with-the-visual-studio-2010-and-net-framework-4-0-ctp\/","title":{"rendered":"Using Hyper-V with the Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 CTP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, we <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/pfxteam\/archive\/2008\/10\/31\/9026988.aspx\">posted<\/a> about the availability of the <a href=\"https:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=129231\">Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 CTP<\/a>, which includes <a href=\"http:\/\/social.msdn.microsoft.com\/Forums\/en-US\/parallelextensions\/threads\/\">Parallel Extensions to the .NET Framework<\/a>.&nbsp; This preview release is available as a Virtual PC (VPC) image.&nbsp; Unfortunately, a VPC image isn&#8217;t great for showcasing parallel processing, as even on a machine with many cores, the guest OS will only have a single virtual core.<\/p>\n<p>Over on his blog, Grant Holliday has put up <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/granth\/archive\/2008\/11\/03\/converting-vs2010-ctp-to-hyper-v.aspx\">a nice guide to converting the VPC image into a Hyper-V image<\/a>.&nbsp; Why is this useful?&nbsp; Because the guest OS can see up to four virtual cores, which makes it an environment much better suited to trying out the parallel technologies included in Visual Studio 2010.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Note that as Grant states, &#8220;This is not an officially tested scenario. Things may or may not work. You&rsquo;re on your own.&#8221; Even so, it&#8217;s nice to have options.
