Besides that, we also added additional functionality &#8211; the app will allow you to customize the color saturation of all content when HDR is turned on!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Benefits of calibrating your HDR device<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>In some cases (particularly with displays without\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/display-requirements-for-hdr-video-in-windows-192f362e-1245-e14d-3d3f-4b3fc606b80f\">HDR certification<\/a>), the displayed content is sometimes either brighter than the maximum supported brightness of the display, or darker than the minimum supported brightness. This causes a \u201cclipping\u201d effect which reduces detail in both highlights and shadows of a scene. Calibrating your display can improve your experience with HDR on Windows by addressing these issues!<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, if you want your content to be more vivid when HDR is turned on, you can use the app\u2019s Color Saturation menu to customize how colors will appear on your screen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Before you start<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>To ensure you have the best experience running the Windows HDR Calibration app, be sure to check out the app\u2019s requirements <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/topic\/f30f4809-3369-43e4-9b02-9eabebd23f19#requirements\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Using the Windows HDR Calibration app<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Here are some tips to have in mind when using the app:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Now that you\u2019ve installed the app, you can access it by either looking for the app on the Start menu by typing \u201c<strong>Windows HDR Calibration<\/strong>\u201d or by going to <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; Do I need to calibrate it?<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>HDR-certified displays typically work great out of the box without any additional calibration. However, you should still consider using the Windows HDR Calibration app. Click <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/display-requirements-for-hdr-video-in-windows-192f362e-1245-e14d-3d3f-4b3fc606b80f\">here<\/a> to learn more about the different HDR display certification programs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><u>Why don\u2019t I see any changes when I move the slider in the Color Saturation menu?<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Not all GPUs support this functionality. Please check out the app\u2019s requirements <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/topic\/f30f4809-3369-43e4-9b02-9eabebd23f19#requirements\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If your GPU does seem to support this functionality, please know that this change will depend on your display characteristics and on some displays it may be very subtle and hard to notice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><u>I got a new HDR display \u2013 do I need to run the app again?<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Yes, you should run the app again as the generated color profile is display-specific.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><u>After downloading the app, how can I quickly access it?<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There\u2019s two easy ways to access the app:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Look for the app on the Start menu by typing \u201c<strong>Windows HDR Calibration<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>System<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Display<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Use HDR<\/strong> and click on the section \u201c<strong>HDR display calibration<\/strong>\u201d (currently only available for Windows Insider Program users)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><u>I don\u2019t know much about HDR &#8211; where can I learn more?<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We\u2019ve published an <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/directx\/windows-2021-hdr-getting-started-guide\/\">HDR getting started guide<\/a> in the past which will help you learn more about HDR on Windows \u2013 where to find HDR content, what hardware you need, etc\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><u>How can I delete the color profiles created by the Windows HDR Calibration app?<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you want to delete a color profile that was created by using the Windows HDR Calibration app, you can do it using Color Management in Control Panel. Select the <strong>Start<\/strong> button, type color management, then select it in the list of results. In <strong>Color Management<\/strong>, select the <strong>All Profiles<\/strong> tab, select the color profile you want to delete, then select <strong>Remove<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><u>I just calibrated my display and now the images in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom are appearing green, is this normal?<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This is a known issue we are looking to resolve. In the meantime, we\u2019d like to offer you two possible workarounds:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha;\">\n<li>Take advantage of our ICC compatibility helper tool. To do so, look up your Adobe application\u2019s icon, right-click on the app\u2019s icon and click <strong>Properties<\/strong>. Next, navigate to the <strong>Compatibility<\/strong> tab, and under <strong>Settings<\/strong>, select <strong>Use legacy display ICC color management<\/strong> (see image below). Restart your Adobe application. This will resolve your problem and allow you to maintain your HDR display calibration.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the HDR color profile created by the Windows HDR calibration app. <u>Removing this will remove your HDR display calibration<\/u>.
