Visual Studio Online integrates Cloud Load Testing with Application Insights to give deep insights into performance and diagnostics data of your application which\u00a0dramatically decreases the discovery and resolution of any issues discovered later. This article will walk you through configuring Load Testing to take advantage of Application Insights. With the latest release of Visual Studio Update 3 RC, you will be able to monitor any of the performance counters during the load run.<\/p>\n<p>*Please note that Application Insights is in Preview.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Here are the steps to get started:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Verify Cloud based load testing with Visual Studio Online is working correctly. Directions can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/loadtfs\">https:\/\/aka.ms\/loadtfs<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Make sure you have the latest Visual Studio Updates:\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=309297\">Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate RTM<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Download <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=397827\">Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate Update 3 RC <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Configure your application with Application Insights:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">\n  Make sure that you apply the workaround mentioned <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/visualstudioalm\/archive\/2014\/07\/03\/application-insights-tools-for-visual-studio-included-in-visual-studio-2013-update-3-rc.aspx\">here<\/a> to\u00a0 send app performance data to Visual Studio Online else your Application will be configured in your Azure subscription and data will be visible only in Azure portal. And if your application is visible in\u00a0Azure\u00a0portal then you will not be able to view the performance data during the load run with Cloud load testing (Visual Studio Online).\n<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 60px\">\n      If your application was already configured with Application Insights, then no need to do anything new.\n    <\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 60px\">\n      If your application is not yet configured with Application Insights. Please see: <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/aigetstarted\">Get started<\/a> with Application Insights. Make sure your application(s) which you want to monitor are correctly configured with Application Insights and verify you can view the performance data flowing in the Visual Studio Online portal.\u00a0<strong>Please note<\/strong>: Performance data in Application Insights can take more than 30 minutes to be visible in the Application Insights portal from the time you configure your application. \u00a0If you don\u2019t see your performance data in Application Insights please see: <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/aimmafaq\">https:\/\/aka.ms\/aimmafaq<\/a>\n    <\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">\n  If you want to add custom counters to be monitored during your load run, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/controlpanel\/blogs\/posteditor.aspx\/If%20you%20want%20to%20add%20more%20counters%20including%20the%20custom%20counters%20to%20be%20monitored%20with%20Application%20Insights,%20kindly%20visit%20this%20post.\">here<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\n  4.\u00a0\u00a0 Connect the Visual Studio IDE to your Visual Studio Online account from team explorer and open your Load Test.\u00a0For monitoring application performance counters during the load run:\n<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\n      Choose the option of &#8220;Get Performance Data from Application\u00a0Insights&#8221;\n    <\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 120px\">\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/devops\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/07\/6114.pic1_.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/devops\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/07\/6114.pic1_.png\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\n  \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">\n  b.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0This will retrieve the list of Applications configured with your Application Insights. <strong>Please note<\/strong>: In case you have no Applications registered with Visual Studio Online -Application Insights earlier, than you will get a notification of &#8220;Nothing is configured for your\u00a0Visual\u00a0Studio Online account&#8221;. In such a case go ahead and start monitoring your application with Application Insights. <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/aigetstarted\">Get started<\/a> with Application Insights.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>Choose the\u00a0counters you want to monitor with the load run:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">\n  \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/devops\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/07\/3022.pic2_.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/devops\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/07\/3022.pic2_.png\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">\n  1 &#038; 2 are for Expand all and Collapse on the Tree structure.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">\n  3 is for \u201cSelecting the recommended counters\u201d. In case you are not sure what counters to select to be monitored during the load run, then you can select this option which will select the counters recommended by Cloud load testing service. They include: CPU, Memory, NetworkIO , DiskIO , PerformanceEventsPerSec and ExceptionsPerSecond.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">\n  If you are viewing a different modal which shows only the Application names configured with Application Insights, then you need to upgrade your Visual Studio to Update 3 RC.
