Getting ready for Code Camp Seattle i\u00a0 decided to do a demo of Build-Deploy-Test using a non domain joined Windows 8\u00a0 Release Preview machine as my lab management\/hyper V Server creating a Windows 7 Standard Environment as my test environment.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately everything I did kept getting the error below in the verification step\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cVerify that the machines are accessible using the user name and password provided\u201d <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

Turns out you MUST turn off something called \u201cRemote User Access Control\u201d in the Standard Environment machine if you are using a non domain joined computer\u2026.if you look closely the the error does give you a hint that this could be the problem \u2013but with no visual UI in Windows to toggle this setting (it doesn\u2019t even have a registry key!) let me tell you it was a non trivial task to find the answer!!!!<\/p>\n

To disable UAC remote restrictions, follow these steps:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Click Start<\/strong>, click Run<\/strong>, type regedit, and then press ENTER. <\/li>\n
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. If the LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy registry entry does not exist, follow these steps: \n
      \n
    1. On the Edit<\/strong> menu, point to New<\/strong>, and then click DWORD Value<\/strong>. <\/li>\n
    2. Type LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy, and then press ENTER. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    3. Right-click LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy<\/strong>, and then click Modify<\/strong>. <\/li>\n
    4. In the Value data<\/strong> box, type 1, and then click OK<\/strong>. <\/li>\n
    5. Exit Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
