{"id":3713,"date":"2012-12-13T08:54:00","date_gmt":"2012-12-13T08:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/visualstudioalm\/2012\/12\/13\/known-issue-upgrading-from-tfs-2012-beta-to-update-1\/"},"modified":"2019-02-14T17:57:47","modified_gmt":"2019-02-15T01:57:47","slug":"known-issue-upgrading-from-tfs-2012-beta-to-update-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/devops\/known-issue-upgrading-from-tfs-2012-beta-to-update-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Known Issue Upgrading from TFS 2012 Beta to Update 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica;font-size: small\">We would like to convey some information about a known upgrade issue with the&nbsp;<a title=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/jasonz\/archive\/2012\/02\/29\/welcome-to-the-beta-of-visual-studio-11-and-net-framework-4-5.aspx\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/controlpanel\/blogs\/posteditor.aspx\/February%2029th%20Team%20Foundation%20Server%202012%20Beta\">February 29th Team Foundation Server 2012 Beta<\/a> release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica;font-size: small\">Recently, one of our customers reported hitting a block when trying to upgrade TFS 2012 Beta to the recent <a title=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/somasegar\/archive\/2012\/11\/26\/visual-studio-2012-update-1-now-available.aspx\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/controlpanel\/blogs\/posteditor.aspx\/TFS%20Update%201\">TFS Update 1<\/a> release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">TF255438: The configuration database that you specified cannot be <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">upgraded. The following issue prevents upgrading the database: TF400965: The <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">database was created using a non-Go Live version of Team Foundation Server and <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">cannot be upgraded.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica;font-size: small\">We have confirmed that there is a hard block preventing upgrade in this scenario, when it should actually be enabled.&nbsp; Upgrade from TFS 2012 Beta will be enabled again for Update 2, which will be released in a few months.&nbsp; Until then, the workaround for this issue is to do a two-step upgrade by first upgrading to TFS 2012 RTM, and from there upgrading to TFS 2012 Update 1.&nbsp; Although only the most recent version of TFS 2012 is discoverable online at any point in time, the RTM release is&nbsp;still available.&nbsp; The links to the&nbsp;RTM release are below for anyone who needs to upgrade Beta right away.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica;font-size: small;text-decoration: underline\">TFS 2012 RTM<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica;font-size: small\">EXE: <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=255991\">http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=255991<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica;font-size: small\">ISO: <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=255990\">http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=255990<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We would like to convey some information about a known upgrade issue with the&nbsp;February 29th Team Foundation Server 2012 Beta release.
