Our iOS targeting story is definitely work in progress, and this feature enablement shares our current line of thinking. Developers targeting the Android platform will now be able to take advantage of the following feature set:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Android developers can now target <strong>Android API Level 21 (Android&nbsp; 5.0, Lollipop)<\/strong> and also leverage the more recent NDK <a href=\"http:\/\/dl.google.com\/android\/ndk\/android-ndk-r10d-windows-x86.exe\">(NDK R10D<\/a>).\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>GCC tool chain (GCC 4.8)<\/strong> for Android native development is now supported in Visual Studio. This is in addition to the Clang tool&nbsp;chain when building Android Native Libraries. Developers can configure the toolset to build their application using the General (Platform Toolset) property in property pages as depicted in the figure below.\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/4812.Toolchain.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/4812.Toolchain.jpg\" alt=\"Image 4812 Toolchain\" width=\"981\" height=\"232\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/4812.Toolchain.jpg 981w, https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/4812.Toolchain-300x71.jpg 300w, https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/4812.Toolchain-768x182.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 981px) 100vw, 981px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Visual C++ toolchain will also now allow developers&nbsp;to take advantage of <strong>&#8216;Stripped&nbsp;Debugging&#8217;<\/strong>, this will allow developers to strip debug information from&nbsp;the binaries before deployment while still allowing them to debug the binary successfully. The feature can be controlled by use of the linker (Debugging) property page as shown in the figure below.\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/3617.Strip-debugging.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/3617.Strip-debugging.png\" alt=\"Image 3617 Strip debugging\" width=\"1229\" height=\"201\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/3617.Strip-debugging.png 1229w, https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/3617.Strip-debugging-300x49.png 300w, https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/3617.Strip-debugging-1024x167.png 1024w, https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cppblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/3617.Strip-debugging-768x126.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1229px) 100vw, 1229px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>We have made fixes to our <strong>debug an existing Android Application built externally to VS<\/strong>, you can find more information on this related blog-post.<br \/>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Debugger Visualizations (NATVIS) <\/strong>has also been introduced for the Android platform for a more productive debugging experience. These samples are mostly a port of the existing samples provided in the Android NDK but should provide you with a quick-start on how to use Visual Studio for targeting the Android Platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To wrap up, this is exciting time for the Visual C++ team and we would love to hear from you.
