{"id":6799,"date":"2023-10-09T09:20:51","date_gmt":"2023-10-09T16:20:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cosmosdb\/?p=6799"},"modified":"2023-10-09T09:33:46","modified_gmt":"2023-10-09T16:33:46","slug":"apache-cassandra-version-3-11-support-beyond-eol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/cosmosdb\/apache-cassandra-version-3-11-support-beyond-eol\/","title":{"rendered":"Apache Cassandra version 3.11 support beyond EOL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cassandra.apache.org\/_\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apache Cassandra<\/a> Project Team recently announced that, after more than half a decade, <a href=\"https:\/\/cassandra.apache.org\/_\/blog\/Apache-Cassandra-3.0.x-and-3.11.x-End-of-Life-Announcement.html\">versions 3.0.x and 3.11.x will reach End of Life<\/a> at the <strong>end of 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To echo the project team announcement, we want to highlight the significant advantages of upgrading to <a href=\"https:\/\/cassandra.apache.org\/doc\/4.0\/cassandra\/new\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cassandra 4.0<\/a> or 4.1, and encourage users to make the transition.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you prefer to remain on version 3.11 for the time being, with <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/products\/managed-instance-apache-cassandra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure Managed Instance for Apache Cassandra<\/a>, we have you covered! We are delighted to announce that we will be fully supporting Cassandra version 3.11 until <strong>the end of 2024<\/strong>. Support will include any required CVE patches, as well as any bug fixes that cause production issues.<\/p>\n<p>Not only that, but we will soon be releasing support for turnkey in-place major version upgrades (currently in private preview). With this feature, future transitioning from one major version to another should be straightforward. If you are self-hosting Apache Cassandra version 3.11 (or higher), you can migrate to the service by configuring a <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/azure\/managed-instance-apache-cassandra\/configure-hybrid-cluster\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hybrid cluster<\/a>, allowing newly deployed data centers to join your existing Apache Cassandra ring.
